The Arts Centre, Hounslow where community thrives, art connects, and performance inspires. We're an independent centre dedicated to creating opportunities for all to become immersed in arts and social activities.
We need culture to:
Make us resilient 💪🏽 | Give us hope 🌈 | Remind us we are not alone!🤝
The Arts Centre, Hounslow was established in 2015 by Philip Ryder & Jonathan Ashby-Rock, two theatre producers who re-established the venue previously named ‘The Paul Robeson Theatre’.
Whilst the auditorium retained the title of 'The Paul Robeson Theatre' the decision was made in 2015 to rename the venue 'The Arts Centre, Hounslow' in order to represent the wider range of activities to now offered.
Today it is a self-sustainable Arts Centre that delivers excellent and affordable arts and culture to the local community.
We strive to provide as much support to developing artists and producers as possible. Through our Associate programme we offer resources such as; rehearsal space, use of technical equipment, and mentoring. By supporting projects we hope to lessen the financial challenges associates may face allowing them to focus on creating and making their projects a success.
Patch of Blue Theatre, Hookhitch Theatre, Alliance Dance Unit, London Contemporary Theatre, Lionhouse Theatre, Tale Be Told Theatre, The Voice Of Us Disabled Theatre Company & Opia Theatre. These companies have gone on to have successful productions in London’s West End, New York, Edinburgh & Adelaide Fringe Festival, and regional tours across the UK.
The Arts Centre, Hounslow is a multifaceted cultural space located in the heart of Hounslow. Originally simply a theatre, we have expanded since establishment to better serve the needs of diverse local groups and cultural activities. These include; theatrical performances, foreign language cinema screenings, dance and fitness classes. As well as an all year-round community gallery for local artists of all abilities to freely exhibit work. We also host community support sessions such as Hounslow’s Wellbeing Network, Saathi Women’s Group and Speak Out in Hounslow.
GREAT NEWS! We successfully secured a grant from Heathrow Community Trust to develop Footprints Festival of the Environment this will run in 2020 & 2021 alongside securing funding from London Borough of Hounslow to curate 6 festivals between 2020-2022.
Since 2018, we have been running as a festival theatre producing a variety of festivals. Our first festival, The Festival of Mental Health and Wellbeing, achieved significantly higher attendance figures than any of our previous events with a higher percentage of patrons from immediate locality. The festival included 6 theatrical performances, 15 workshops and support sessions such as Let’s Connect to encourage those feeling isolated to come and have a chat in a safe environment.
All of the festival performances and workshops were 'Pay what you Decide' making the festival to be accessible to all. With an attendance of over 700 in our first week the festival was a great success.
Reviews from our renowned annual in-house Pantomime
"Now this is how you produce a decent local pantomime" The Stage on Dick Whittington 2017
"The Hounslow Panto is genuinely our kids' favourite one! We have been the last three years, this year TWICE because the kids loved Jack and the Beanstalk so much. We usually do two pantos a season, the other one with a famous celebrity, and the kids always prefer the Hounslow panto. Always the same cast who are like celebs to our kids now. The Bohemian Rhapsody was genius. Will, of course, be back next year!"
"Hounslow's Christmas panto is always a delight. Traditional elements blended with contemporary jokes, music to get you clapping and plenty of audience participation. The Robin Hood cast this year is excellent, obviously enjoying the performance as much as I did. The whole event brings a smile to my face every year."
"What a great panto! We were booing and cheering from the start. Music, great jokes, slapstick, well-paced with all the traditional elements, but up to date with an independent-minded Maid Marion for 2018. Look no further for a proper Christmas pantomime."
"Robin Hood was excellent; we thoroughly enjoyed it! Will Scarlett was hilarious! An all singing all dancing, laugh out loud, he's behind you boo and hiss panto! Well recommended fun family show!!!"
"The Arts Centre, Hounslow offers everything my family looks for in a Christmas panto and more. The cast features lovable singers, as well as the incomparable Jonathan Ashby-Rock, who always has children in stitches (and adults too). OK, so you have to actually go to Hounslow to see it :) but you have to love a panto where the cast in their fabulous sparkly costumes pose for pictures and hug babies at the end of every show."
"The 2016 Cinderella panto was amazing -- straightforward, funny, with lots of toe-tapping numbers -- all while capturing the zeitgeist (from stepsisters named Theresa and Hillary to a clever David Bowie tribute)." B'est of all, you don't have to pay a fortune to see it. Yes, the seats can be creaky, but you are guaranteed a great view no matter where you sit. For the price of a single ticket at an overpriced venue (e.g. in Richmond / Hammersmith / Hackney), you can take your whole family along plus grandparents and friends, and still have money left over for their bar (they have a bar!). Can't wait to see the Hounslow Arts Centre panto in December 2017!"
"Took my wife and some friends to the panto at The Arts Centre and had an evening where we didn't stop laughing. They have created a stage this year that means that the panto takes place in the middle of the audience, which makes it an all-inclusive experience. A must-see at Christmas."
"Treated my godsons to the panto and they had such a good time. One was thrilled to go up on stage, and both enjoyed meeting the cast after. A nice venue that needs a little TLC. Ice creams etc. not too expensive."
"Had a great time at an excellent production of this story. Very close, intimate space and easy to book. The place is in desperate need of a makeover, seats were probably put in the 90's, but didn't stop us all having a thoroughly good time! King Rat is spectacular!!"
"A thoroughly enjoyable time watching this pantomime with my daughter & grandchildren. Very good for children with good interaction with the audience. It was a shame the theatre was only half full. I think it lacks advertising as local people are not aware that the theatre still exists."
"Aladdin was an excellent panto and excellent value for money. There are still plenty of performances, with an adult-only performance; tonight (Wednesday 23rd). Visit!"
"The Arts Centre Hounslow is a one-of-a-kind centre in a brilliant location with a unique opportunity to become a massive cultural hub with the community at the centre of its heart."
